Argentina won at Bolivia after 15 years

Lionel Messi and his teammates upstream beat Bolivia 2-1 in the second round of the 2022 World Cup in South America on the evening of October 13.

Argentina had a low start. This is to be expected, although in terms of the squad they completely outperform the top stars playing in Europe such as Messi, Lautaro Martinez, etc.

Hernando Siles Stadium in Bolivia’s La Paz plateau – which is 3,640 meters above sea level – is an obsession with Argentina. As of 1979, they had played seven matches here, but won only once in 2005, remaining tied two and lost four.

And the tragedy seemed to be coming back to Argentina when the net bounced in the 24th minute. In a simple counter-counter-attack situation, although there were more people, the visitors still let Moreno Martins sneak down and jump high. Headed the opener for Bolivia. Before and after this goal, goalkeeper Franco Armani was still a few times threatened, by Martins header or Leandro Paredes shot from about 20 meters.

After getting used to the thin atmosphere and the pace of the game, Argentina gradually played better, especially in the late first half. The tackles with the participation of Messi, Lautaro and Ocampos forced Bolivia to retreat to the defense.

However, thanks to a little luck, the visitors found the equalizer in the 45th minute. In an attempt to solve the problem, Jose Carrasco hit Lautaro’s foot, causing the ball to fly back into the Bolivian goal.

Finding an equalizer before the end of the first half helps Argentina play more confidently. Messi also plays a more active role in assisting. In the 75th minute, he poked the slot for Lautaro to escape, but the Inter striker missed the chance to score. In the 79th minute, Messi opened the attack, allowing his teammates to score 2-1. After receiving the ball from the captain, Lautaro did not want to finish, but moved to the left of the box so that new player in Joaquin Correa came across the corner.

After the first two matches, Argentina earned six points. Last weekend, Messi scored the only goal from the penalty spot to help the team defeat Ecuador 1-0.

At the next gathering for the 2020 World Cup qualifiers, Argentina hosted Paraguay on November 12 and became a guest of Peru on November 17.
